How it works

From the first call to the money in your hands.

What a tax sale leaves behind, what we do, what you decide, and what you'll be asked for. Nothing here costs you anything up front.

What happens after a tax sale

How a tax sale can leave money behind.

  1. Taxes fell behind

Often over a hard stretch: an illness, a lost job, a death in the family.

  2. The property sold for more than was owed

What was left over may belong to the former owner, or to their family.

  3. Nobody told you

Most people never hear about it. That's where we come in.

What would a little breathing room mean for you this year?

How it works

Four stages, start to finish.

  1. Find

Tax sale surplus is rarely advertised to the people it belongs to. Finding them is our work, and most people first hear about it from us, by phone or by letter. On that first call we tell you who we are and that there is money, but not every detail yet.

  2. Decide

Before anything is signed, you get our agreement in writing: our share, how costs are capped, and what happens next. There is nothing to pay up front, and you can walk away at any point before you sign.

  3. Claim

Once you've signed, you get every detail, and Michael handles the claim from start to finish. You won't be left to deal with the paperwork yourself.

  4. Recover

Before the money is released you're asked to prove who you are, so it goes to the right person. If the owner has died, the family shows how they're related. Our share comes out only once the money is recovered.

Why work with us

You could do this yourself. You don't have to.

Claiming this money means paperwork: forms, records and proof that all have to line up, and it's easy for that to get messy and confusing. If you'd rather not spend your evenings on it, that's the part we take off your hands.

  • We handle the paperwork. We prepare it, check it and keep track of it, so you don't have to.
  • No learning curve. We already know what this kind of claim asks for, so you don't have to figure it out from scratch.
  • Peace of mind. Get on with your life while we deal with the red tape. Michael keeps you updated along the way.
  • Your information stays private. Michael is the only person at the company who sees it.
  • Nothing unless you're paid. No upfront cost, and if nothing is recovered, you owe nothing.

Anyone who is owed this money can claim it without a company. If you'd rather do it yourself, that's your right.

What are surplus funds?

Money left over from a tax sale.

When a property is sold for unpaid taxes, it can bring in more than was owed. What is left over is often called surplus funds. It may belong to the former owner, or to their family if the owner has died, and often nobody tells them.

Getting it is harder than it sounds, and the rules differ from place to place. That is the work we do.

A simple example

The property sold for
$52,000
Taxes and costs of the sale
−$8,000
Left over
$44,000

Example only. Every sale is different.
